7 steps to 40K organic traffic visitors in 12 months

A breakdown of what we did

Last year, a B2B SaaS startup brought me onboard as an SEO consultant.

Before working together, they struggled to appear in the SERPs and had zero high-ranking keywords on Google.

Fast forward to 12 months later, they now drive 40,000+ visitors from organic search every single month.

That’s not all…

They also outrank their biggest competitors for the most valuable keywords and queries in their niche.

How did we achieve this?

That’s exactly what I’ll be sharing with you in today’s email.

So, let’s dive into the 7 things we did to get there:

Step 1) Update existing content

Most of the existing pages on this website were missing some key elements SEO-wise.

So, I recommended several changes to the client for implementation.

This includes rewriting the SERP titles, reworking the heading structures, adding new sections to the pages, and many more.

Here is an example:

2) Optimize the home page

The home page had some decent backlinks but wasn’t ranking for its primary keyword.

So, we implemented some on-page optimization tactics to improve its performance.

3) Build an ROI-driven SEO strategy

Most of the pages on the client’s website targeted keywords unrelated to its core product.

So, I first interviewed the founders to understand exactly why they built the product, the key problems it solves, other existing solutions, and many more.

This helped me build an SEO strategy focusing on customers rather than just search volume.

4) Develop MoFu & BoFu content brief templates

Not all content writers can produce high-converting SEO blog posts that turn readers into user signups and paying customers.

So, to help the client produce high-quality content pieces consistently, I developed some BoFu & MoFu content brief templates.

These include:

  • JTBD content brief template

  • Comparison post content brief template

  • Alternatives post content brief template

  • Software listicles content brief template

Here is a snippet of what it looks like now:

5) Nail the search intent

For each blog post, we made sure that we answered one simple question.

If I were in the searcher's shoes, would this solve the problem they’re currently facing?”

If we feel it doesn’t, we don’t publish it. If we’re confident it does, we’ll go ahead to publish it on the blog,

6) Demo the product in blog posts

One of the recommendations we implemented for this client was that it’s not enough to tell the reader how your product works; you must also show them using screenshots and video walkthroughs.

Today, each blog post on the website serves as a mini product demo.

Here’s an example from one of their blog posts:

7) Strategic internal linking

The strategy we implemented here is two-fold.

First, before publishing each piece of content, I review it to see if we’re linking internally to other relevant blog posts and pages on the website.

Second, after a new blog post goes live, we look for internal linking opportunities from other pages.

There you have it…

7 key steps we took to help a B2B SaaS startup grow to 40,000+ organic traffic visitors in 12 months.
